The Joy of Parenting

Disclaimer: Attribute this to the sheer joblessness on a Saturday night or the unending piles of 'things to do' finding their way into my planner, driving me plain nuts. Now that you have been warned, back to the subject at hand.

All those of you who wrote the GRE will remember the example topic for argument critiquing - "Life is incomplete without the experience of parenting" or something to that effect. I remember opposing this vehemently for my essay and coming up with, what to me, seemed to be a masterpiece. Nevertheless, I stand corrected.

There is no greater joy than that of watching your little baby take its first steps. Or as is case, come out of its crabby corner, chase an ant across the tiled floor, catch up with it and gulp it down. Meet Lizzy. The baby lizard who came running into my room last week sometime and has been hiding in the corner eversince.

We have a splendid little arrangement, she hides in her corner all day to get away from the heat, coming out only at night and gettign across no further than my window and I, for her not crossing the imaginary Laxman Rekha, don't chase her out.

On particularly jobless evenings as this one, it is a marvel to see Lizzy come out of her corner and chase ants and other small creepy-crawly things. But like all babies, her movements have to be monitored. She ever so often tries to scale my wardrobe door when a quick bang on it sends her scurrying back downward. Sigh! My little bundle of joy!

She's growing up though and soon it will be time for her to leave. Anyone wanting a full grown lizard may well let me know, Lizzy's a dear.

Evolution has been slightly unkind to some of us.Tortured many times by this need to be needed a long time before such a situation could present itself. Till it does , try to keep yourself together. Chase the lizard out.

Sigh! Chased it out on the joyous occasion of Hostel Nite. Moreover, it was getting too curious for its own good.
